Problem and Description:

100 km south of Nouakchott on the road to Rosso, a succession of advancing dunes threatens Tiguent. This phenomenon is a contributing factor of the degradation of the natural environment. A new community association has organized dune fixation projects, but their actions remain limited due to the lack of resources.

To support these actions, ECO-Development initiated a reforestation project in Tiguent.

Objectives:

Fixation of the sand dunes in the locality of the Tiguent
To protect the houses and infrastructures by the plantation of a green belt
To create revenue generating activities

Planned Activities:

Site identification for tree nursery
Watering and maintenance
Identification of the recipients and the AGR
Project management
Implementation of AGR

Expected Results:

Implementation of 13200 seedlings in the nursery
30 hectares of a Green Belt planted
Implementation of the AGR
The assured management and operation of the project
